Initial Jobless Claims Drop 50k
Initial jobless claims fell 50,000 in the week ending January 14 for the largest drop since September 2005. In total, the week saw 352,000 jobless claims. As Bloomberg news pointed out, the 4-week average of 379,000 is not convincingly lower than mid-December (380,750). We will need to wait and see what claims look like next week before making too many judgements about any trends.
